Afghanistan Relief

For years maps have depicted the natural landscape by combining shaded relief and hypsometric tints with other related cultural features. In this example we present a rich palette of hypsometric tints to depict the change in the elevation throughout Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush. We have used a very simple mask to highlight Afghanistan from the other areas of the map. This map uses SRTM data to depict the natural terrain of the environment. SRTM is an international project spearheaded by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) obtained elevation data on a near-global scale to generate the most complete high-resolution digital topographic database of Earth. Demap uses STRM on many country and continental level relief maps.
